Module 5 / Lesson 13
The Risk Landscape
Lesson 13 brings our exploration of existential risks to a critical juncture. Having identified individual threats, we now step back to view the entire landscape and ask a cosmic question: If the risks are this high, why does any civilization survive?
Sub-Lessons in Lesson 13
- Lesson 13.1: The Risk Landscape: Understanding how to view all existential risks together, compare them, and identify which deserve the most attention based on cumulative probability.
- Lesson 13.2: The Great Filter, Why the Landscape is Empty: Using the "Great Silence" of the universe as empirical evidence. We explore whether the absence of aliens suggests that civilizations like ours are destined to hit a universal wall.
Structure of Each Lesson
To help you navigate these high-stakes topics, each sub-lesson follows your standard framework:
- Learning: Core content, including curated video features and primary research articles from the field.
- Reflection: Critical questions designed to link the data from the cosmic landscape to our own survival probabilities.
